2019 Barrel Select Pinot Noir
The release of the 2019 Barrel Select is the first official look at our 2019 Pinot Noirs. After having waited nearly two years since bottling, we often joke that the 2019s have required the patience of a saint. The personality of this vintage was distinctly defined during the harvest of 2019 which required exceptional patience and resolve. After a fantastic spring and uneventful growing season, the summer came to an abrupt end with a series of storms that arrived in the Willamette during September. It seemed that just as the grapes would be reaching physiological ripeness, a storm would blow into the valley, arresting the ripening process for days, and the cycle would repeat. After weathering several storms, we eventually got a perfect window of weather to harvest the grapes. The resulting hangtime led to a wine of poise and balance that is slowly revealing its stunning qualities to us. This vintage of the Barrel Select showcases lovely red fruit on the nose and palate, combined with a wonderfully earthy umami characteristic that creates a deliciously balanced wine to enjoy as a glass on its own or paired with your favorite meal. While this wine is marvelous now, this is an excellent vintage and bottle to age over the coming years, with the elusive peak likely being many years in the future.
